Tooth Extraction
The most ethical dental treatment is to always try and save your tooth whenever possible by restoring it to health and maintaining your tooth’s structure. Our team function together to support our overall health, the way we eat, talk and smile. Saving your teeth promotes the best possible harmony.
If your tooth can no longer contribute to the long term harmony of your oral health, then unfortunately it is not practice to retain the tooth and it may be removed.
There are two main reasons that teeth are removed from the mouth,
firstly when the tooth is damaged beyond repair, and secondly in situations where the tooth is causing discomfort, is non-functional or is responsible for misaligning other teeth in the mouth.
Patients who are receiving orthodontic treatment may have a tooth extracted to facilitate more effective alignment of the teeth. Any extraction that is performed, is carried out under a local anaesthetic to make it as comfortable and pain-free for the patient as possible.
Following your extraction your dentist will discuss with you how this missing tooth may affect your oral health and options for replacing your tooth/ teeth such as implants, bridge or dentures.
