Fissure Sealants
Fissure sealing is painless, does not require you to be numb and is a preventative dental treatment. When adult teeth are developing, pits and fissures form in the enamel. These deep grooves become traps for plaque and bits of food to hide. The most compliant and best little tooth brusher can not reach these areas properly to clean them and result most caries form in this area where molars are most susceptible to decay.
A resign is placed to create a barrier to help protect the enamel from dietary acids, food particles, trapped bacteria and plaque to reduce the risk of decay. Fissure sealants should be placed as soon as the tooth has fully erupted from the gum.
Your dentist will usually complete this dental treatment from approximately 6 years of age and upwards.

Fissure sealants can also be completed by your hygienist at your child’s annual appointment.
