PJ qualified from Cork in 1983 and has practised as a dentist ever since. He worked in Billericay and Wickford, Essex for a number of years before taking over the Kinsale practice in 1991. In 1991 he completed Dental Implant training with pioneers in the field including Professor David Harris at the Wellington Hospital, Harley Street, London and Professor Per-Ingvar Branemark in Gothenburg, Sweden, and has been placing dental implants in Kinsale, Ireland and Wickford, UK since. He subsequently completed a Masters Degree in Implantology from Warwick University in 2008. PJ worked extensively with Professor Stewart Harding during those three years. At the world renowned centre of excellence The Malo Institute, Lisbon he studied Teeth in a Day. He continued on to study sinus augmentation with Dr Hilt Tatum who was the first dentist to perform this procedure.

PJ is recognised by his colleagues for his vast experience in dental implants and has been appointed mentor to the Nobel Biocare system. His main interests are Dental Implants, Cosmetic Dentistry including Cosmetic Adult Braces,and continuing advances in dentistry. His philosophy is to offer the best there is in dentistry to his patients in a relaxed friendly environment. PJ is married to Janet who is also a dentist and has four children. Besides dentistry his favourite pastimes are gardening, cooking, walking and golf.

Qualifying in Cork in 1987, Janet spent 7 years working in general practice in the UK, until 1994 when she relocated to Kinsale with her husband and fellow dentist PJ and their young children. Since then, she has worked exclusively in general practice in Kinsale and enjoys the variety of general practice and the continuity of working in a tight knit community. Janet has also worked in a voluntary capacity as a dentist in Nairobi, Kenya for periods in the last few years. She is the mother of four young adults aged from 16 to 23 yrs. In her free time she is a keen golfer, enjoys travelling and exploring ongoing advances in dental care.

Brenda qualified from University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in 1991. She then worked in general practice in the UK for 9 years and came to Ireland in 2000. She worked in general practice in Midleton and as a HSE dentist in Dungarvan before joining Kinsale Dental in 2006. Brenda has a particular interest in the established link between oral health and many generalised illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes, providing periodontal treatment is an area that she finds especially rewarding. She is married to Kinsale-based Optician Frank and they have three children, when she is not occupied with her young family she enjoys outdoor pursuits.
David Hegarty

Dr David Hegarty is one of the most highly qualified Orthodontists in Ireland, and a Consultant Orthodontist at Cork University Hospital. He trained as an Orthodontist in Cork Dental Hospital, and qualified in orthodontics to hospital consultant level in Manchester in 1999.

He provides a wide range of cosmetic braces for adults, lingual orthodontics, Invisalign and clear aligners and removable braces and functional appliances in young children to help guide jaw growth and prevent the need for traditional braces.

He has worked as a consultant orthodontist in the Irish health service to date, training orthodontists managing cleft palate patients, jaw surgery cases, and dental implant patients as well as line managing HSE services. David regularly attends orthodontic courses to continually develop the work he provides.

Maeve qualified from UCC in 2007 after being awarded the Kerr prize for Dentistry and a bursary from the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry. She has worked in general practice in Edinburgh, Cashel, Carrigaline and Glanmire. She particularly enjoys working with nervous patients and is trained in extra techniques to help make the dental experience as relaxed as possible for them. Maeve is committed to continual professional development and is a member of the Munster committee of the Irish Dental Association. She lives in Ballinspittle with her husband and two children and can often be found walking around the Old Head, on the stage or at a GAA match. She loves her job and is one of the few people who looks forward to work every day.

Karen graduated as a Dental Hygienist from Format in Barcelona, Spain. Following her graduation she moved to London where as a registered member of the General Dental Council she worked in private and NHS practices. Karen treated patients suffering from minor oral health issues to more serious issues like Oral Cancer.
She says ‘One of the most satisfying aspects of her profession is educating and motivating my patients to improve their oral hygiene.
I treat my patients as I would like to be treated myself by creating a relaxed atmosphere so my patients feel at ease’ Karen is extremely committed as a dental hygienist and takes great pride in delivering and maintaining high standards of care for all her patients.
She can be often heard telling patients : “You don’t have to brush all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep!”
Yvonne Coleman

Yvonne graduated from UCC in 2007, then worked in Kerry for 2 years after qualifying. She now works in private practice in Cork where she is involved in preventing and treating gum disease. Her role is to treat periodontal disease and help to maintain Implants and other types of restorative dentistry. Having been part of the Kinsale dental team as a dental nurse for 10 years, she then went on to study dental hygiene at Cork University Dental Hospital and UCC. Her main aim is working with patients to achieve high standards of oral care with the goal being an unproblematic, healthy beautiful smile. Yvonne finds her work as a dental hygienist professionally fulfilling because it has a positive impact on the quality of peoples lives.
